Glendevon's Policies and Instructions for Breeding with Transported Semen

1. Print out TWO Breeding Contracts, 1 Mare Information Sheet, and Vet Certificate per mare.

2. Call or email Leslie for assistance, if needed, and continue to keep her updated on mare’s status.

3. READ CAREFULLY and fill out both contracts and Mare Information Sheet completely.

4. Sign and return BOTH contracts, along with mare info sheet and full booking fee and three photos of your mare (1 side, 1 rear, 1 front view) or video AT LEAST 14 DAYS PRIOR TO 1ST DESIRED COLLECTION. One contract will be signed and returned to you. (Keep the Vet Certificate in a safe place with your mare, to be completed following each insemination, and return after final pregnancy exam/ultrasound.)

5.*** ARRANGE FOR DIRECT ACCOUNT WITH FEDERAL EXPRESS IF SHIPPING REQUIRED.***

6. *The Stud Fee and $85 DEPOSIT must be paid in full BEFORE ANY SEMEN WILL BE COLLECTED.*

7. Get a uterine culture/biopsy done on your mare as soon as she begins cycling, and have her checked for reproductive soundness. Boost vaccinations, deworm, and check date of coggins at this time too!

8. We recommend that you arrange to tease your mare with a gelding or stallion. Teasing is the foundation of good mare management and can save you many vet bills! DO NOT RELY ON YOUR MARE SHOWING HEAT OTHERWISE as she will be too far along then.

9. Let us know as far in advance as possible when your mare is ready to be bred. Ideally at predicted start of heat.  COMMUNICATION is critical to ensure that we get your mare settled in foal, in the MOST TIMELY AND ECONOMICAL manner possible.

10. CALL AND EMAIL the stallion owner before 8:00 p.m. EST THE DAY BEFORE you wan the semen collected, and tell us if you desire to pick up the semen at Shamrock Farms, in Woodbine, MD, or have it shipped (which will add another day before you receive it). Mare owner may choose to board mare at Shamrock Farms (tel. 410-795-0723), to facilitate timely insemination, with their prior agreement . *GLENDEVON’S MOUNTAIN MAN  HAS SETTLED EVERY MARE, WHEN WELL MONITORED/TEASED, ON THE 1ST COVER! IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE THE SEMEN WITHIN 24-48 HOURS OF COLLECTION. PLEASE HAVE YOUR VET QUICKLY FILL OUT INSEMINATION CERTIFICATE AFTER EACH BREEDING/ULTRASOUND

11. Be absolutely certain to have your vet check the mare 14 to 21 days after the last day bred. Ultrasounds can also alert you to possible twins – saving time, money, and heartache later. Discuss this with your vet. It  is strongly recommended that you recheck after day 45.

12. If the mare is not in foal after 1st Collection, semen will be made available as often as needed within breeding season, WITH $85 CHARGE DUE BEFORE EACH COLLECTION BEGINNING  ON 2nd COLLECTION AND ALL SUBSEQUENT COLLECTIONS. Shipping fees will never be paid by Glendevon Stables/Shamrock Farms, + are the responsibility of the mare owner.
