In addition to our own sales horses, Glendevon Stables now also accepts a limited number of outside horses and riders for boarding and training. From starting youngsters for the first time, to problem solving for eventers and foxhunters, we enjoy our work. Our system is based on patience, consistency, confidence, trust and respect between horse and rider, and heavily influenced by the teachings of Torrance Watkins, Jimmy Wofford and the U.S. Pony Club organization.

Since having her own children, Leslie has also found a real joy in developing young riders and ponies and introducing beginners to the pleasure of safe riding across country. Leslie and her family are also passionate about educating families about farming and local foods. Glendevon offers 115 acres of natural beauty, with an active working farm full of crops and fun critters including Clydesdale driving horses, goats and chickens. Clinics and demonstrations on all aspects of farm life are offered seasonally. The farm welcomes anyone interested in learning more about horses and farm life.

As a rule of thumb, prices for private lessons run $35 per ½ hour , $50 for 1 hour, and semi- private lessons are $35 an hour. Horses sent on training receive stalls that are deeply bedded and banked, fans and/or blanketing, quality feeds, TLC as though they were our own, and as much individual turn out as weather permits, starting at $325 per month. Students choosing to board their horses here receive discounted rates. Packages start at $325 for field board with 4 lessons per month.

Tiny tot lessons for children 3-6 years are also offered to get your pony enthusiast off to a confident start! Our kind ponies are perfect teachers and permit even the smallest tot to learn all about how ponies think, what they like and don't, how to care for them and, of course, how to have fun riding! Tiny tot lessons last 1/2 hour and are $25.

Students are also welcome to trailer in for lessons, or Leslie Deering may be available to travel to outside barns as distance and time permit. A limited number of working student positions are also offered, although no housing can be provided. Please feel free to contact us to discuss any needs you might have, as our programs are tailored to the individual and prices vary.

Please inquire also about our Summer Camps and Mini Camps!

Here's what a few of our students have said about their experiences with our farm:

"I am so happy to have found Leslie Deering! I am continually impressed with the depth and breadth of Leslie's knowledge. She teaches me something every time I speak with her- from horse care to soundness to nutrition to riding theory, her extensive background is an incredible resource for her students to draw from. But what truly sets Leslie apart from other trainers is her absolute dedication to helping her students achieve their goals, while building their confidence and problem-solving skill set along the way. Her lessons are conducted like a conversation between friends as she listens to the concerns and perspectives of her students, all the while guiding them to that "light bulb" moment. She enables her students to learn to RIDE, not just look good going around a course. She is a trainer for trainers as well as beginners- her approach to teaching is warm and supportive enough for those new to horses, but her knowledge of theory and classical training will challenge any rider from Novice through Advanced. Remarkably, her commitment to her students doesn't stop when a lesson is over- she is always willing to take the time to teach a new horse care skill in the barn aisle or the pasture, and rare are the days when she doesn't pop in during a ride to offer some advice. I have been looking for just the right trainer to help me achieve my goal of completing a CCI*, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have stumbled upon Leslie!!"

"Leslie's style of teaching has enabled me to find a newfound respect for my horse’s athleticism and my capabilities as a rider. Leslie has taught me how to utilize every muscle when working with my horse. Additionally, her teaching isn't strictly limited to the ring...she also has taught me extremely valuable information prior to and following a lesson pertaining to my horse's health, grooming, diet, etc. I am extremely excited about my future with Leslie and my career as a rider!"

~ Ashley C., Damascus MD

"Have you ever wanted to "unplug" from technology and the hectic lifestyle for just a little while? If you do, then Glendevon Stables is the perfect place to visit. The farm is beautiful, enchanting, and simply delightful any time of day. I have a four-year-old daughter, Bella, and a one-year-old son, John. Both kids just LOVE when we go for Bella's riding lessons! Leslie is so knowledgeable and simply awesome with the kids and so are all the critters! From dogs and cats, to chickens, goats, ponies and horses, all the animals seem to love the extra attention from visitors (big and small). I feel completely comfortable that my kids are safe when they are around any of the animals. Bella's lessons consist of learning how to groom the horse before and after riding, identifying and helping with all the "tack", mounting/dismounting, proper posture and hand/arm placement, and so much more! Leslie has such a wonderful way of teaching that she makes the lesson fun and engaging while also being educational and responsible. What I love most about Leslie's lessons with Bella is that she learns how to care for the horse and tack, not just ride for fun. This teaches her that with fun also comes responsibility and hard work. This concept is so important to our family and lessons with Leslie reaffirm those core values. Before I found Leslie and Glendevon Stables, I had researched for many months trying to find the "right" place to take my daughter for lessons. From the first time I spoke with Leslie on the phone, I knew this was the place! My family and I are so pleased with our choice and I know you will be too! Without a doubt, one of Maryland's hidden Gems!
