Welcome to Glendevon Stables, a small breeding and training operation located in north central Maryland.
We produce and sell select crossbred sporthorses, both by our own
Glendevon's Mountain Man, and from
other breeding programs that meet our high standards. Our specialty
is in making rewarding and uncomplicated
partnerships between horses and
riders.
Leslie Deering began Glendevon Stables in 1988, after returning
from several years training with, and running barns for, Torrance
Watkins and Karen Reuter, in VA, and Edith Conyers and Hill n Dale
Farms in KY. Her time spent with these operations gave her a wide
variety of experience with horses. Some of the highlights of these
years included experiencing the behind the scenes training,
preparation and competition for the ‘84 Olympics, in which Torrance
and Finvarra received a team gold medal; prepping and showing the
multi million dollar TB colts sold by Hill n Dale Farms at the
prestigious Keeneland Select Sales; and overseeing the care of
Karen Reuter’s Arbor Hill, as he competed and flew to and from
Holland, for the international three day event at Breda. It was
while working for Edith Conyers, former master of the Iroquois Hunt,
in Lexington, KY, that Leslie was first introduced to foxhunting,
sporthorse breeding via A.I., and the athleticism and versatility of
draft cross sporthorses.
Leslie feels fortunate to have had the
opportunity to work with world class horsemen, learning good old
fashioned horsemanship. She continues to take advantage of lessons
and clinics. Leslie gets great satisfaction in
helping others, with practical and down to
earth advice, whether on selecting a new horse, or better
understanding the needs of a current mount. Her extensive experience
in re-educating off the track Thoroughbreds and “difficult
characters” has also given Leslie a real appreciation for the much
greater ease of starting, whenever possible, with a good tempered
youngster, correctly handled, healthy and confident!
Glendevon’s program now focuses on producing
these prospects in limited numbers. Our
115-acre farm, nestled along Sam's Creek on the edge of Frederick
county, is surrounded by open farmland and rolling hills, perfect
for educating and conditioning horses across country. By restricting
our herd, we are able to invest considerable time and training with
each individual. Starting from birth, our babies are handled daily.
Foals by Glendevon’s Mountain Man
consistently demonstrate his prepotency. Their calm and willing
temperaments, combined with size, substance and athleticism, make
them a joy to own and train as numerous happy
owners have reported to us! Youngsters become experienced at
leading, tying, clipping, vacuuming, bathing, and no stress trailering. They soon progress to quiet work under tack in our round
pen, followed by lunging and ground driving. Once under saddle, all
horses receive a solid education in dressage and jumping. We enjoy
furthering their education at small shows, events, and out
foxchasing whenever our schedule permits. Great emphasis is always
placed on obediance, balance, and forward impulsion. As a result,
our horses are light off the aids, brave and happy in their work.
We are very proud of our reputation for
honesty, professionalism, great rapport with horses, high client
satisfaction and loyalty. Please look around our site. We look forward to
working with you, and hope you’ll contact
us. We know you'll find our prices for sporthorses and services
to be realistic and highly competitive! |
